Supplication and Intercession, is there a difference?

What is the difference between supplication and intercession?
This is one of the questions asked tonight that I had some trouble answering. As you will see
there are some similarities in the biblical meanings of the two words and that’s where I get tripped up a bit when this question is posed. I personally think the N.I.V. gives the better understanding of the first verse “urge, then, first of all, that requests (ie. Supplications), prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.”

To sum it up supplication would be to petition God with specific request or a list. To intercede would be to stand in and meet between the two parties personally on the behalf of one or both. It’s the difference between sending a letter for someone, and going to meet personally on the behalf of that person to represent them.

1 Timothy 2:1 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
